Are you worried about rust on your motorcycle? So let’s find out how to protect your bike from rust.
Motorcycles are a hobby. We all take care of our motorcycles more or less. If a stain gets on our motorcycle, it will be a real pain. Besides, due to lack of care, our beloved motorcycle can get rusty. So, we should take care of our beloved motorcycle regularly.
Nowadays, it has become impossible to reach somewhere on time due to traffic jams. That is why two-wheelers are becoming quite popular with everyone.
So motorcycles need special care. Taking care of motorbikes is very important especially during the rainy season. Rust occurs due to water. Rust also occurs due to humidity in the air. Apart from this, care is essential to maintain the performance of the bike. So let’s find out how to protect your bike from rust. Below are some tips:
1.Regular cleaning
During the rainy season, keep your motorcycle clean with more care than at any other time of the year. This will keep your motorcycle free from dirt, water stains, and moisture. Water causes rust. So special care will protect your bike from rust. So whenever you return from a ride, try to clean your motorcycle thoroughly.
2.Keep your bike dry
Every time you return home after a ride during the rainy season, or when you are not riding, and your motorcycle is idling in the garage, make sure that it is dry. So after the ride, you should wipe the rainwater off the motorcycle or use an air-blower to remove the water accumulated on the various parts of the bike. This will protect it from excess moisture and rust and also prevent its color from fading.
3.Cleaning the parts
Clean and dry the bike after every ride. Rainwater can contain dirt, dust and corrosive materials. Use a sock-like cloth and a bucket of water to clean the drivetrain, frame and brakes and wash the bike. Dry the bike thoroughly with a clean cloth to prevent moisture before getting on the bike again.
4.Clean the chain and moving parts
Use a good lubricant on the chain and moving parts. Water can wash away the necessary lubrication from your bike’s chain and other moving parts, which can lead to rust. Apply a quality bicycle-specific lubricant to the chain, derailleurs, and other pivot points. Use covers where possible on parts that attract dirt.
5.Use fenders/mudguards
Install fenders/mudguards. Fenders help reduce the amount of water and mud that gets on your bike, keeping it clean and dry at all times. Consider installing fenders on both the front and rear wheels if your bike doesn’t already have them.
6.Use sprays or waxes
Use a water-repellent spray or wax as needed. Apply a water-repellent spray or wax to your bike’s frame and other metal parts. This can create a barrier against moisture and prevent rust from forming. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application.
7.Check brakes
Check brakes regularly and keep them in good condition. Wet conditions can reduce the performance of your brakes. Check brake pads for proper performance and balance them if necessary. Make sure they are working properly with the rims or rotors to maintain effective stopping power.
8.Check tire pressure
Check tire pressure. Wet roads can be slippery, so maintaining proper tire pressure is crucial for grip and control. Check your tire air pressure regularly and keep it at the level indicated on the tire sidewall.
9.Store properly
Store your bike properly. If you don’t plan on riding your bike in the rain, it’s best to store it indoors or in a covered area. Constant exposure to rain can accelerate rust formation. If you leave your bike outside, use a waterproof cover to protect it.
10.Check for signs of rust
Regularly check for rust damage. Regularly check your bike for signs of rust, especially in areas prone to water accumulation, such as the bottom bracket, headset, and seat post. If you notice any rust or similar, address it immediately to prevent damage.
11.Use a rust-preventing spray
If necessary, you may want to consider using a rust-preventing spray. Applying a rust-preventing or corrosion-preventing spray to vulnerable areas can provide protection from moisture and rust.
The bike should be kept dry. Clean it regularly. If necessary, use a rust-resistant spray.
Rust will not disappear just by wiping it with a dry cloth. However, rust prevention spray is effective in this case.
Even after putting a cloth on the bike, if it comes into contact with moisture or water, it will rust.
Not entirely okay. You should check occasionally to make sure all the parts are working properly.
